Why Use an Ozone Generator?
Ozone generators keep rainwater clean without harsh chemicals. Our recommended model, the JED 203, is designed specifically for this purpose. There is one small challenge: these generators can only pump ozone into water at a maximum depth of 4 feet. To overcome this, we’ve developed a simple floating tether solution.
The Floating Tether System
The floating tether is a floating ball attached to four feet of chain, which is zip-tied to the air stone of the ozone generator. The air stone is what delivers ozone into the water. With this setup, the air stone hangs precisely four feet from the water surface — regardless of the water level in the tank.
How It Works
The floating ball allows the air stone to rise and fall with the water level, ensuring consistent ozone injection at all times. Once installed, plug the ozone generator into a timer and set it to run every few hours for short durations. This regular ozone infusion keeps your tank fresh, reduces algae growth, and controls bacterial levels.
